China seminar 30 Sept.2015 at Voka Kempen

On 30 September 2015 Horsten organised a China seminar in Geel, with the assistance of VOKA Kempen, the Chamber of Commerce. About 25 business people participated in the seminar.

First Ed Sander gave a lecture about the e-commerce market in China and the trends in social media. Ed is specialised in database marketing, online marketing and CRM and worked in China during 2 years as a marketing consultant. Then Bart Horsten gave a speech about how European SME's can use these e-commerce platforms in their strategy for China, both for B2C as well as B2B purposes. Bart gave some useful insights in how traditional distribution systems can be integrated in the new e-commerce channels, highlighting also the new opportunities in cross-border e-commerce trading. Some typical pitfalls were explained and many practical tips were given how European SME's can find the most effective business model to increase the return of investment and mitigate the risks when entering the challenging Chinese market.

At the end of the seminar two testimonials were given:

  • Ms. Bieke Buyens, Sales and Marketing Manager of Corsendonk Hotels explained how they succesfully approached Chinese tour operators to attract more Chinese tourists to stay in one of the 6 hotels of the Corsendonk Hotel group. With the help of Horsten International a marketing plan was prepared, including a Chinese website and a presence on the immensely popular Wechat application. One of the project managers of Horsten in China was appointed as the representative of Corsendonk Hotels in China, responsible for the communication and contract negotiation with the Chinese tour operators.
  • Mr. Paul Wouters, Managing Director of Jumpstart Ltd, an agency specialised in business development and marketing and sales, explained how he developed the business of Ecover, a manufacturer of eco-friendly cleaning products from the Antwerp province, to become successful in China.

The seminar was closed with a Q&A session and a networking event.
