On 26 November 2015 Horsten International organized its 4th China seminar of 2015 in Mechelen, with the assistance of VOKA Mechelen, BCECC and the EU SME Centre.

First Bernard Dewit gave a lecture about legal aspects of doing business in China. Bernard is senior partner of Dewit Law Office and president of the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC). He talked about the new investment law of China, the new policies by the Chinese government to stimulate the new silk road, entry modes in China and protection of intellectual properties.

Then Bart Horsten gave a speech about how European SME's can choose the best strategy for their China venture. He also gave valuable insights in the potential of China’s e-commerce market, both for B2C as well as B2B purposes. Some typical pitfalls were explained and many practical tips were given about how European SME's can find the most effective business model to increase the return of investment and mitigate the risks when entering the challenging Chinese market.

At the end of the seminar Nick Govaert of Erie Water Treatment gave a testimonial about his experiences in China. Erie is a company based in Olen, Belgium, a branch of Aquion Inc, a US company. Erie is manufacturing water softeners and other water treatment equipment for export to China. After a difficult start, in 2014 and 2015 Erie’s business has grown significantly in China and the expectations for 2016 and the following years are quite ambitious. Aquion Inc has recently also established a wholly-foreign owned enterprise, which enables them to further strengthen their commitment to the Chinese market.

The seminar was closed with an interactive Q&A session and a networking reception.
