Exportboost Food China: Interactive workshop series and trade mission to China
In cooperation with the Belgian Food Federation FEVIA, Flanders Investment and Trade (FIT) and Green Seed, Horsten International organized 3 interactive China workshops and a trade mission to Shanghai and Hangzhou from 25 to 29 March 2019.
China is an economic power with a growing middle class and a strong need for imported food products. China is one of the biggest food markets in the world and already the biggest imported food market globally. From a Belgian perspective, since 2016 China is already the 2nd biggest export market for Belgian food companies, with growing importance.
Many food companies are already exporting their products to China succesfully. However, it is clear that many food companies have great ambitions in China, but do not know how to deal with this complicated market and what to do first. During the three workshops held in Belgium from September 2018 to February 2019 the following topics were addressed:
- General introduction about China and the food & beverages market in particular
- Entry modes to China and strategic considerations
- Legislation and intellectual properties
- Cultural aspects of doing business with China
- Identification of and negotiating with Chinese partners
- Distribution channels and logistics
- E-commerce in China
- Social media in China
- Marketing and branding in China
Bart Horsten was one of the main speakers, assisted by several other experts in the industry. The trade mission to China was organized from 25 to 29 March 2019. The mission was composed of store checks, company visits, B2B meetings and lectures by food professionals and government agencies.
